Cooling Athletes Using Cool Water to Reduce Exertional Heat Illness

The BRITA | COOL™ electrostatic sprayer supplies cool water and compressed air to promote skin cooling and evaporation, without the use of refrigerants or ice. Because the liquid being expelled is above 32° Fahrenheit, the risk of athlete vasoconstriction and shivering are eliminated.

RATIONALE

It has been argued that placing ice packs over major blood vessels may promote shivering and cutaneous constriction, actually impeding cooling efficiency. To effectively cool the body the temperature of liquid which aids in cooling needs to be above freezing temperature to allow the dermal tissue to stay open and effectively cool the skin.
